Job Purpose:    

The Director of Operations (DO) reports directly to the CEO. The primary responsibility is over site of domestic and international aircraft operations, ensuring compliance with international and federal aviation administration regulations, in accordance with company values and financial goals. The DO ensures all company flight operations are carried out with the utmost regard to safety and efficiency. The DO will implement systems and processes providing for best customer service practices, while balancing business needs and operational requirements. Positions reporting to the DO include the Chief Pilot, Operations Manager, Training Manager, Safety Manager and Dispatch team members.

Position Requirements:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Holds Operational Control over all flight operations conducted by the company.
  • Develops and maintains company-controlled manuals, e.g. General Operations Manual.
  • Develops, modifies and coordinates FAA approval of the Operations Specifications for Part 135 Operations.
  • Formulates operations policies and procedures, communicates those policies and procedures to all employees and coordinates required training.
  • Coordinates with the FAA Flight Standards District Office, DOT, CBP, TSA, NTSB, along with all other applicable government and international agencies. Ensures all required reports and documents are filed timely.
  • Is accountable for all quality and 3rd party audit results such as ARG/US Platinum, ISBAO, Wyvern and EJM.
  • Supervises the Chief Pilot and flight operations personnel.
  • Ensures all fight and ground operations are conducted safely and in compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations, Operations Specifications, Company policies, procedures and organizational standards.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Maintenance for scheduling aircraft inspections and timely correction of mechanical irregularities and discrepancies.
  • Ensures all aircraft are properly equipped for intended operations.
  • Follows and ensures compliance to the company Safety Management System.
  • Responsible for overseeing HAZMAT program.
  • Responsible for overseeing Drug and Alcohol Program.
  • Develops annual expense and capital budgets for the department and manages spending to ensure compliance.
  • Develop systems and metrics to monitor safety efficiency, and efficacy of flight operations at all field bases, use trending information to modify standards, improve safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Directs execution of operational standards, drives a culture of continuous improvement in operations, leads highest standard of safety, and is a collaborative member of the executive team.
  • Represents Alerion through active participation in general aviation industry associations, including NBAA and NATA committees and working groups.   Maintains knowledge of trending regulatory issues and safety improvements for inclusion into our planning for future operations.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • 3 years supervisory or managerial experience within the last 6 years in a position that exercised operational control over turbojet, worldwide and 10 or more operations conducted under part 121 or part 135.
  • Meet all requirements listed in 14 CFR Part 119.71(b) as applicable.
  • Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications (Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Experience using Flight Operations management systems such as Avianis, FOS, PFMSYS or equivalent.
  • Collaborative leader and team player; strong communicator; able to give and get direct feedback.
  • Able to prepare and present programs to the FAA, company leadership, other government agencies, and commercial customers.
  • Experience operating in Gulfstream IV or similar category aircraft is desirable - but not required.
